Subodha Charles

Subodha has been involved in IEEE Since 2011 starting as a student member. He played a major role in uplifting IEEE activities in Sri Lanka and he was recognized as the best student volunteer in the Asia Pacific region in 2015. He was also awarded the “IEEE MGA Young Professionals Achievement Award” in 2019.

Subodha graduated from the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka where he received his B.Sc specializing in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering. During his time in college, Subodha launched a startup focusing on the energy sector of Sri Lanka and is now serving as a member of the board. His company is one of the market leaders in the Solar PV industry in Sri Lanka. After his first venture got stable, he moved to Florida to read for his Ph.D. in 2016 specializing in Embedded Systems. His research work and publications in premier international conferences, as well as time spent as an Intern at Intel Corporation, has given him substantial experience in the area. 

He continues to be involved in the entrepreneurial space experimenting on several other ideas as well. His company has currently invested in other ventures such as a healthcare center in Sri Lanka and a construction firm.

Subodha Charles is currently, the Vice-Chair – Awards / Education on the 2020 IEEE Entrepreneurship Steering Committee and the Regional Student Representative of IEEE Region 3.
